Met Helmet Trenta 3K Carbon review

Tempo di lettura: 9 minuti

Met Helmet decided to celebrate its thirty years with a top helmet; for the materials, the constructive choices, the performance, the comfort: the Trenta 3K Carbon.

And me, who courted the company since the news launching, I could get my hands on it, or rather put it on my head, as soon as the specimen reserved for the press arrived.

I have this helmet since January and we are in late April. Usually I do not employ such a long time between receiving the material and posting a test. But you know that I do not follow a scoop, I don’t care to be the first to get the news: I’m interested in being the one who provides cyclists with the most detailed and accurate test.

Already in mid-March I had sufficient elements for the publication, and yet I preferred to wait some more. Not because this helmet left me doubtful, but because we are at such high levels that I wanted to be sure that there was not even the most infinitesimal crack (metaphorical…) in the evaluation of what I can safely define as one of the most exclusive products in the wide panorama of the helmets on the market.

So I preferred to warn the company’s communication manager – who is now used to my small and big obsessions – that I would have gone online a lot beyond my usual times.

An I received by return of post: “Fabio, I do know that if you don’t check even the single wire, you’re not satisfied…”.

Met Helmet is a company that has long appeared on this blog, and a mutual relationship of esteem and trust has grown over time.

There is passion in their parts, there is passion in Ulysse, who is in charge of the communication, there is passion in this blog: it’s impossible not to get along.

I tell you this, whit my usual sincerity, because I like to introduce you to the behind the scenes; that it hasn’t been always all plain sailing, quite the opposite. But it happens that sometimes I meet someone who believes in my strange editorial project, outside the classical schemes of the internet, even though it develops in the internet; someone who does not hesitate to trust me and above all gives me a free hand, without ever wanting to interfere in my choices or the results of my tests.

Not that everyone else does this, I mean interfere, but it happened, yes: the result was that I preferred to send the material back in spite of the article being ready to be published.

So I abused Met Helmet’s patience, more or less as I abuse of your patience with my chatter, and I continued to pedal wearing this Trenta 3K far beyond the necessary, in a vain attempt to find a weak point.

I almost reached the point where I decided to hammer it to find out how much it would take to break. I was: yes, I am dull, but not to this point.

What kind of article awaits you then? A list of the virtues of this helmet, which flaunts the carbon fiber with elegant nonchalance or a detailed test that will try to make to experience my exact feelings, while riding in all conditions, climate and bike? Let’s say both.

It’s difficult for an enthusiast like myself not to get involved in such a beautiful object, that pictures do not justice to it.

I experienced the advent of the carbon fibers, both on bikes and motorbikes, and I do remember how fascinated I was when I looked at the skilled artist who, working from a thick weave of soft fabrics, obtained a very solid and very light object, whit the most racing aspect.

Now we are used to it, we are not surprised anymore and indeed, especially in cyclism, many people start to be snooty about the fibers, calling them “plastic-like”. Which are not, of course; but, being a composite material, if it’s – excuse my playing on words – badly composed, then yes, is plastic and is poor too.

Otherwise it’s one of the best materials for multiple uses. And I am telling you this, me, who made my bike in steel with conjunctions, that bike named as this blog.

But the use of composite fibers is not a flaunting: thanks to their strong points, it has been possible to obtain a solid, light helmet, with a small shell because there is less inner material, perfectly ventilated and with an aggressive look, especially in the rear, which may be not essential for the safety, but which doesn’t hurt.

Let’s meet it.
